The Vancouver Canucks and their scouting staff may have hit a home run with their fifth round pick at the National Hockey League’s 2025 Entry Draft back in June.
We might be in the middle of summer, but hockey is just starting up again with several European leagues set to open training camp, and even play preseason games, starting this week.
Meanwhile here in North America, the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase got underway on Sunday, with a pair of Vancouver Canucks prospects involved including Braeden Cootes, the team’s first round pick last month.
Vancouver Canucks appeared to make right decision to select Wilson Bjorck in last month’s draft
The Swedes have already played two games at the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase and in both contests their group has played very well, with Wilson Bjorck making an impact.
In Sweden’s first game of the showcase on Sunday afternoon, Bjorck was put on the team’s first line against USA Blue and picked up an assist on Jack Berglund‘s goal as his nation rode an Ivar Stenberg hat trick to a 5-2 victory.
24 hours later, Sweden was back in action as they faced USA White and were looking to remain undefeated in the showcase and once again, Wilson Bjorck had yet another strong game.
Bjorck registered a pair of assists in the game to bring his total to three in the showcase, as Sweden won their second consecutive contest, this time by a score of 4-3.
“A pair of assists in today’s game for #Canucks prospect Wilson Björck.
A nice showing for him so far at the WJSS.” Chris Faber said on X.
The 19-year-old had an incredible season in Sweden’s junior league with Djurgardens IF where he had 67 points (28 goals, 39 assists), 98 penalty minutes and was a plus-31, before adding nine points in nine postseason games.
Bjorck is now headed to the NCAA next season where he’ll suit up for Colorado College, which is good news for the Canucks as it’ll be close enough for Vancouver Canucks scouts travel there and see how his progression as a prospect is going.
