Fan At WNBA Game Ejected For Their Reaction To Player Losing Wig originally appeared on The Spun.

We’ve seen “wardrobe malfunctions” in sports and entertainment for decades now, but it’s hard to recall an incident quite like yesterday’s WNBA game.

During a game between the Washington Mystics and the Phoenix Mercury, the Mercury’s All-Star Kahleah Copper had an unfortunate incident were he wig fell to the floor while playing. Copper quickly grabbed it and ran to the locker room while a timeout was called on the floor.

While the WNBA commentators and broadcast did their best to hide what had happened, the crowd did not. Laughter erupted as the crowd went wild over the bizarre scene.

As you might expect, plenty of mockery ensued and the Mercury ultimately had a fan ejected for continuously mocking Copper over her fallen wig.

But if the Mercury were hoping to save some face by getting rid of an unruly fan, it seems like they failed.

Ejecting a player over their reaction to the incident has only made people insult and mock the WNBA more, judging by the responses on social media:

“What a joke. Halting the entire game because some broad’s wig fell off, and she ran off the court? Send in a sub. And ejecting a fan because they thought it was funny? I wonder why this league doesn’t make any money,” one user mocked.

“1) The WNBA is not a real sports league. 2) At this rate, very soon sports fans will not be allowed to even boo a player (at least not from a protected class), or they will censor themselves for fear of being ejected,” wrote another.

“There will be documentaries one day about how badly the WNBA botched the Caitlin Clark era, which could have propelled them into a legitimate, self-sustaining league, but instead things like this make them look bush league,” a third wrote.

“I will never understand women who play intense sports wearing a weave during competition. Wear it before the game. Wear it after for the media presser. Wear to the team dinner later or to the club, don’t wear it during the game!”

“The generation that has been coddled their whole life, given participation ribbons and played but didn’t keep score because everyone is a winner, is now at the age to play semi-pro ball. What’s next? Ejecting someone because they don’t clap loud enough during introductions?”

“Why are they wearing wigs to play basketball? This is not a serious league.”

It’s definitely not a situation that helps the WNBA’s image.
