Over 1,500 people in Boulder County were without power Tuesday as high winds swept across the county.

In northwest Boulder area near Gold Hill, 1,117 customers have been without power for much of Tuesday, according to Xcel Energy. The outage began at about 9:48 a.m., according to Xcel’s outage map.

In the north Boulder area, about 397 customers lost power around 3 p.m. Over 300 customers in the Jamestown area lost power around 2:14 p.m.

Xcel estimated power would return to the north Boulder and Gold Hill areas by 6 p.m. and the Jamestown area by 4:45 p.m., according to the outage map. Each outage was listed as “unplanned.”

Crews found downed wires and broken crossarms that they believe caused the Gold Hill area outage, according to Xcel Energy spokesperson Michelle Aguayo. Crews are in the process of restoring power where they can until they can complete the repairs, Aguayo said.

“We appreciate our customers’ patience as our crews work as quickly as possible to safely restore service,” Aguayo said.

Information about the cause of the other outages was not immediately known, although Aguayo noted “wind is playing a factor” in some of Xcel’s outages.
