Kyrgyzstani Omar Livaza wins silver at World Boxing Championship

AKIPRESS.COM – Kyrgyzstani athlete Omar Livaza took the 2nd place at the IBA World Boxing Championship in the UAE.
He competed in the 63.5 kg weight category starting from the round of 1/16 finals. The 21-year-old Kyrgyz boxer first defeated a representative from Uzbekistan, then overcame a boxer from Armenia in the round of 1/8 finals. In the quarterfinals, Livaza faced a boxer from Azerbaijan and won by a split decision.
In the semifinal match, Livaza fought against a boxer from Zambia and won unanimously (5:0) after three rounds of three minutes each.
Livaza became the first boxer from Kyrgyzstan in history to reach the final at a senior World Championship.
On December 13, the final round took place, where Livaza faced the current Russian champion Ilya Popov. After three rounds, the judges awarded the victory to the Russian boxer by unanimous decision.
Omar Livaza finished in 2nd place, winning the silver medal. Previously, in the 71 kg weight category, Ihtiyar Nishonov took 3rd place and earned the bronze medal.
