Lightweight boxer Giorgio Visioli says he aims to put on a “massive performance” this Wednesday when he fights Joe Howarth for the vacant English title.
The 22-year-old from Aldershot will be looking to extend his unbeaten record to 10 wins since turning professional in late 2023.
This contest will be the first headline show of Visioli’s promising career, as well as his first significant title fight.
The 10-round bout will take place at London’s Indigo at the O2 on a Matchroom Boxing card that features other young and upcoming fighters.
“I’ve got to put a massive performance on and have to show how great I am,” Visioli told BBC Sport.
“My performance on Wednesday night will define what happens next year. I’ll go into the ring and show my class.
“After this fight we’re talking about some big plans. I’m fully focused on Wednesday night, but once I get this out of the way we can look at some big things next year.”
Since joining Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom stable, Visioli has impressed in each of his nine outings, with six of his wins coming by stoppage.
He is backed by his management team of former world flyweight champion Sunny Edwards and Anto Fitzpatrick.
As an amateur, Visioli won two Amateur Boxing Association titles (ABA) and opted to turn professional after Great Britain decided to not select him for their squad ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games.
This fight will be Visioli’s first 10-rounder – and in front of a more familiar crowd, after his previous fight took place in the United States.
“I was surprised when the headline show was put to me, but then I also wasn’t because of the performances I’ve been putting on,” Visioli said.
“I’ve been patient and been learning across the last two years and now Matchroom have given me this perfect opportunity.
“I’m blessed to have this chance and it is only the start. Boxing on a Wednesday night is something new to me and I think it’s something cool.
“Joe is a good fighter and I respect him, but I’m there to do a job. I’ll figure him out when I’m there as I always do. I would be grateful to win the English title and round off a really good year.”
