Dayne St. Clair is nearing a deal to join MLS Cup champion Inter Miami, sources close to the negotiations tell TSN.

Although the contract is not yet finalized, sources close to St. Clair say the 28-year-old is moving to South Florida to be Inter Miami’s new starting goalkeeper.

This season was the final year of St. Clair’s contract in Minnesota, and though several MLS clubs inquired about the future of the 2025 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year following Minnesota’s elimination from the Western Conference playoffs, once it became clear Miami wanted St. Clair as their starter, the Pickering, Ont., native’s focus was solely on Miami.

St. Clair leaves Minnesota after six seasons and 159 appearances. On top of winning the Goalkeeper of the Year honours this season, St. Clair also made two MLS All-Star appearances, and was named the showcase’s MVP in 2022.

Miami won their first MLS Cup with 23-year-old Rocco Ríos Novo in net for the 2025 MLS Cup final. Ríos Novo made 10 appearances and seven starts during the regular season after moving to Miami on loan from Argentine side Club Atlético Lanús.

Ríos Novo started every one of Miami’s six playoff games.

St. Clair’s pending move to the MLS Cup champions is now a clear sign of his intent to use a championship atmosphere to continue his preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

Canadian head coach Jesse Marsch has still not decided on his starting goalkeeper, and has platooned both St. Clair and Maxime Crépeau nearly every international window since becoming Canadian head coach in May 2024.

Both St. Clair and Crépeau were looking for new teams following the 2025 MLS season.

Attention now turns to where Crépeau will end up. The 31-year-old told TSN this spring his inconsistent and unpredictable playing time over two seasons with the Portland Timbers led to his decision to leave the club.
