It’s starting to look like Samsung’s next flagship smartphone series is due for a bigger shakeup than we initially thought, as the name “Galaxy S26 Pro” has once again shown up in place of the usual base model.

Yesterday, codenames discovered within One UI 8 revealed three upcoming phones planned for the Galaxy S26 series: the usual Galaxy S26 Ultra, the Galaxy S26 Edge, and a new “Galaxy S26 Pro model.” The S26 Edge has been rumored for months to be taking the spot of the usual Plus model, but this “Pro” model — seemingly in place of the standard Galaxy S26 — was an all-new revelation.

Get ready to add some smoke to that fire. SammyPolice spotted new GSMA listings that seem to echo details originally appeared earlier this month, save for one big change (via Android Authority). While the company’s initial branding for model number SM-S942U was simply “Galaxy S26,” a more recent listing — dated July 29 instead of July 10 — includes that “Pro” moniker. This iteration also includes a “1” after its model number. Other listings include Galaxy S26 Edge and Galaxy S26 Ultra, without a “Galaxy S26 Plus” anywhere to be seen. Both of those listings are older, dated June 23rd.

Even with more confirmation that the Galaxy S26 Pro is a thing, everything else about it remains a mystery, up to and including where it falls in the lineup. It would seem like this is a replacement for the standard Galaxy S26, just like how the S26 Edge appears to replace the usual Plus model. But the “Pro” branding seems odd for a device that starts at entry-level pricing, especially compared to rivals like the upcoming Pixel 10 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro. Similarly, though, a higher-end model would seem to compete directly against both the Ultra and the Edge, and it’s difficult to predict what a third premium iteration on this phone would even look like.

Of course, all of this just spells out a more exciting product launch for Samsung than usual. And with the S26 Ultra rumored to be getting some long-awaited upgrades to both its battery and its charging speeds, it’s sounding like 2026 might be a good time to be a Galaxy fan.
