The BC Lions announced on Monday that they have signed Canadian defensive lineman Nathan Cherry to a 2-year contract extension that will keep him with the Lions through the 2027 season. He was previously set to become a free agent in February.

Cherry has played his 4th season for the Lions in 2025 as he played in all 18 regular season games, recording 4 defensive tackles and adding 3 more in the 2 playoff games. He was drafted in the first round by BC in 2022, third overall. He has since played in 46 regular-season games for the Lions, recording 19 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
“Re-signing Nathan was important for us, as he adds another solid player to our deep defensive line rotation,” stated Lions’ General Manager Ryan Rigmaiden. “His energy, toughness and character are huge assets for us on the field and in the community.”
Cherry played his collegiate ball for the Saskatchewan Huskies, appearing in 41 games from 2016 to 2021, winning the Hardy Cup in 2018 and 2019. He recorded 46 total tackles (28 solo, 18 assisted), 10 sacks, and a fumble recovery. He was named a U Sports First Team All-Canadian in 2021. In his final season in 2021, he recorded 15 solo tackles, 9 assisted tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, and 6 sacks over 10 games.
