The Pirates are making big moves this off-season

Pittsburgh has signed first-baseman Ryan O’Hearn to two-year, $29-million contract, FanSided’s Robert Murray first reported on Tuesday.

The Pirates, not known to be big spenders, make O’Hearn their second-richest player by average annual value, just behind starting pitcher Mitch Keller who signed a five-year, $77-million contract in 2024.

O’Hearn started his career with the Kansas City Royals in 2018, and was traded to Baltimore in 2023. O’Hearn made his first career all-star game this season and was traded shortly afterward to the San Diego Padres along with Ramon Laureano.

Between the Orioles and Padres, O’Hearn hit .281 with 17 home runs and 63 RBIs over 474 at-bats. He is a career .252 hitter.

O’Hearn joins a Pirates infield, which will feature newly acquired second baseman and two-time all-star Brandon Lowe. Lowe hit 31 home runs last season.
