The Montreal Alouettes announced on Tuesday that they have reached a 1-year deal to keep Quebec-born linebacker Alexandre Gagné on the Alouettes. They have also signed American defensive end Diwun Black to a 2-year contract.

LB Alexandre Gagné – Sherbrooke Vert et Or (6’1, 230 lbs)

Gagné played every game for the Alouettes this past season and finished 2nd in special teams tackles with 25, trailing only teammate Tyrell Richards.

“Alexandre is someone we can rely on to lead by example. He never makes waves and is incredibly effective. He is the perfect definition of an unsung hero. We are very happy to have him back next season,” stated Alouettes General Manager Danny Maciocia.

He began his career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, where he signed as an undrafted free agent in 2017 after attending a tryout. He played in 1 game for Saskatchewan in 2017 and then in every game in 2018 and 2019. Gagné signed with the Montreal Alouettes ahead of the 2021 regular season. He has played in every regular-season game back through 2018. He has played in 123 CFL regular-season games, recording 129 special teams tackles.

DE Diwun Black – Temple (6’3, 240 lbs)

Diwun Black began his collegiate career with Florida, where he played in 13 games over the 2021 and 2022 seasons, recording 6 solo tackles and an assisted tackle. He transferred to Templ,e where he played in 19 games with 11 starts over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, recording 36 solo tackles, 16 assisted tackles, 15.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, 3 passes defended, 4 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.

He signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent this past May and was waived in early August.
