Boxing Day has begun…
Good morning and merry actual Boxing Day!
The coffee is strong, the tabs are many, and the laptop deals are hitting thick and fast. Just like the past week, I’ll be spending today buried in specs and price histories, separating the genuinely good discounts from the “lol, no” RRPs so you don’t have to.
I’ve been tracking laptop prices all year, so as new offers land I’ll be checking them against their usual street prices and updating this hub through the day. Expect plenty of standout everyday machines, gaming rigs and more, plus my insight into if it’s actually worth buying now or waiting for a better deal.
If you’re not sure what kind of laptop you need, I’ll point you to our core buying guides as we go, and call out anything that lines up with our favourite models.
So keep this page open, tuck into those Christmas leftovers and I’ll make sure you only see the real bargains.

Lenovo Yoga naming, explained
Yoga is Lenovo’s premium consumer line. It mostly splits into:
Yoga 2-in-1: 360 degree convertibles that flip between laptop, tent and tablet.
Yoga Slim: thin and light clamshell ultrabooks (no 360 hinge), most common is Yoga Slim 7i.
Yoga Pro: more powerful clamshells for creators, often with higher power CPUs and sometimes a discrete GPU.
Yoga Book: dual screen OLED oddball (Book 9i) with detachable keyboard and stand.
Tier numbers: 6, 7, 9
6 = entry premium or value focused
7 = main premium tier, the default sweet spot in AU
9 = flagship spec and finish
“i” suffix: Intel vs AMD
Yoga 7i / 9i / Slim 7i = Intel
Yoga 7 / Slim 7 (no i) = AMD
“Gen X”: model generation
Gen 8, Gen 9, Gen 10 and so on are model generations and track redesigns and platform changes, not Intel CPU generations. Gen 10 is the latest.

Affordable RTX 5060 gaming
If you’re after an affordable gaming laptop that can still handle modern titles, the Lenovo LOQ 15.6-inch with RTX 5060 is a solid mid-range option.
Working alongside the RTX 5060 GPU is an older but still grunty Intel Core i5-13450HX CPU and 16GB of RAM – which is good enough for decent 1080p frame rates on the 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080, 144Hz display. As long as you’re somewhat sensible with detail settings, anyway.
Lenovo currently has this model for AU$1,699, which is pretty reasonable given the spec.

One of the best Microsoft laptops available
If you want a Copilot+ laptop that feels properly premium without going completely overboard on price, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 13.8-inch with Snapdragon X Plus is a very easy recommendation.
In our Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 review we found that this X Plus model delivers excellent battery life, has a nice high DPI touchscreen with 400 nits of brightness and great colour, plus day to day performance that finally feels competitive with Apple’s MacBook line.
Microsoft lists this 16GB and 512GB configuration at AU$2,199, but right now you can get it for AU$1,538 from JB Hi-Fi, which is a very decent discount – albeit AU$39 higher than Black Friday.
As with any ARM based Windows laptop there’s still the occasional software compatibility niggle if you rely on older or more obscure programs, but for general productivity, web, media and office workloads, this Surface Laptop 7 deal is a great all round option.

Bang for buck gaming
If you have been waiting for a proper budget friendly gaming laptop, this HP Victus 15 config is a Boxing Day offer that’s worth a look.
This variant pairs a 13th gen Core i5 with an RTX 4050, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, which is the sort of spec that can handle smooth 1080p gaming without paying high end money. The 15 inch display runs at 1920 x 1080 with a 144Hz refresh rate, so you can push drop the quality and push high frame rates in esports titles and still get very playable performance in more modern AAA games with the quality settings dialled back.
That said, you won’t be running Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra, or even anything close, but you can still get plenty of gaming fun from the machine.
The Victus 15 with RTX 4050 usually sits around the AU$1,500 mark and and the Ryzen & variant is AU$1,699 from HP. Right now though, it is significantly cheaper via HP’s eBay store, and if you apply the code HPDC20 at checkout it drops to AU$1,119.20. Sure, it was AU$999.20 during Black Friday, but this is the lowest I have seen since.
But if your budget is on the lower side and you want a laptop that can genuinely game at 1080p rather than just look the part, this Victus 15 deal is worth checking out.

Boxing Day early laptop deals are here
Afternoon all, and welcome to our live coverage of Boxing Day laptop deals in Australia.
While Boxing Day isn’t officially until December 26, the sales have already started to roll in from the big brands and retailers. Some of them are genuinely great prices on machines I have been watching for months.
Others are… less impressive….
And that’s what this live blog is here for. I spent the year tracking laptop prices and promos so I have a clear idea of what a fair street price looks like, and what a real discount is versus an inflated RRP.
To vet a deal, I check its recent price history and prices during previous sales to see whether it is actually a saving worth caring about.
Laptops are usually at their most competitive around Black Friday through to the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year period, but the sheer number of configurations, coupon codes and, uh, creative pricing strategies from sellers can make it hard to know where to start.
But fear not, as I will highlight the offers that stand out for value, not just the biggest percentage claims, whether you are after an affordable machine for work or study, a creator laptop with a colour accurate screen or a gaming rig from budgets big to small.
Behind the scenes I will be living in the glow of spreadsheets across four displays, and I will keep updating this page right through to Boxing Day itself.
So bookmark this page and check it regularly to see the latest price changes and new deals.
