Team USA defenceman Cole Hutson was stretchered off the ice in the second period of Saturday’s World Junior Championship contest against Switzerland after taking a puck to the head.

Hutson was conscious and alert as he was stretchered off the ice. He was discharged from the hospital after undergoing evaluation and has rejoined the team.

His status for the rest of the tournament has yet to be determined.

Hutson, 19, has seven goals and 20 points in 18 games in his second season with Boston University. He recorded two points in two games at this year’s World Junior Championship after registering three goals and 11 points across seven games with Team USA last year, as the Americans won their second straight gold medal.

The younger brother of Montreal Canadiens defenceman Lane Hutson, Cole was selected 43rd overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2024 NHL Draft.
