Two people were taken to hospital after a fire destroyed a home in Gaston County on Sunday evening, authorities said, as reported by WCNC. The blaze occurred at a residence on Blacksnake Road, northeast of Stanley, and was reported at around 6 PM, according to the Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services. Emergency crews initially believed one person was trapped inside the home. Ultimately, two people were transported to hospital from the scene, as reported by WCNC, though officials have not released details about their conditions.
According to WCNC, the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department said the fire caused a total loss of the house. Firefighters faced significant challenges battling the blaze, with Chief David Toomey noting that a lack of available water in the area contributed to the fire taking roughly two hours to bring under control.
Multiple fire departments from across Gaston County were called in to assist as crews worked to contain and extinguish the flames. Officials said the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and is expected to continue into Monday.
Chief Toomey confirmed that the home belongs to the parents of NASCAR driver and team owner Denny Hamlin. Public records indicate the property is owned by a company managed by Hamlin, reported WCNC. Hamlin has not publicly commented on the incident while authorities continue to assess the damage and investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
