Officials in North Carolina said one person is dead and another is being treated for life-threatening injuries after a fire at a home owned by the parents of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin on Sunday.

According to WSOC-TV, the fire in Stanley, N.C. drew nearly a dozen different departments in response.

Between 40% to 45% of the home was already burning by the time responders arrived.

Though officials have not identified the names of the victims, neighbors said Denny and Mary Lou Hamlin, the driver’s parents, live in the four-bedroom, three-bath home.

Two people were discovered outside the home when crews arrived and were taken to the hospital.

Chief David Toomey of the Lucia Riverbend Fire Department said firefighters were able to save some valuables from the scene.

“They had some really expensive cars in the garage and some racing memorabilia and stuff, so all that was saved,” Toomey told The Athletic at the scene. “We were able to save all that and get it out so it wasn’t damaged.”

The fire is under investigation.

In a message shared on social media, the department asked the public to keep the affected family and first responders in their thoughts.

The 45-year-old driver earned his 60th Cup Series victory earlier this year and narrowly missed securing his first championship in November after late-race developments resulted in Kyle Larson winning the season finale, according to Yahoo News.

The fire comes 10 days after a deadly plane crash at Statesville Regional Airport that killed former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and six others, including an Auburn University student and his father.
