2023 record: 89-73 (3rd in AL East)
2024 record: 74-88 (5th in AL East)
2025 record: 94-68 (1st in AL East)
Coming into the 2025 season, the Blue Jays were in a state of flux; everything would pivot on the status of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s contract, which was to expire after the season. It was the biggest story in Toronto the entire offseason, and when his team record, 14-year, $500M extension was signed in April, it set the tone for the entire season. The team was 14-14 after April, but from that point on, they posted monthly winner percentages of .550 or higher the rest of the way, winning the AL East on the last day of the season.
The Jays then made an unexpected run through the playoffs to the World Series, where they were heavy underdogs to the might LA Dodgers. The Jays held a 3-2 series lead and had multiple chances to finish off the Dodgers, but couldn’t quite do it. The individual performances this team had during the season and playoffs, in addition to the clubhouse culture that grew during the run has altered the direction of the franchise. Early this offseason, this team has already added a top-of-the-rotation arm in Dylan Cease, a depth arm from the KBO in Cody Ponce, and a shutdown reliever in Tyler Rogers.
Toronto is a destination once again for free agents, and as of the time of writing, they were still in on middle-of-the-order bats like Kyle Tucker and Blue Jays lifer Bo Bichette. By 2028, some of the veteran contributors from the 2025 playoff run have moved on, but an underrated farm system provides some answers with both the hitting and pitching. Â
