Samsung’s One UI 8 Watch update appears to be causing serious problems for some Galaxy Watch 4 Classic users. Reports on official community forums suggest multiple sensors have stopped working after the update. It’s unclear if the vanilla Watch 4 has the same issue.
One UI 8 Watch update causes major problems for Galaxy Watch 4 Classic users
Based on Wear OS 6, One UI 8 Watch introduces a refreshed visual design and several functional improvements to Samsung’s smartwatches. It is the final major feature release for the Galaxy Watch 4 series, giving the aging watches a noticeable performance boost. However, the update did more harm than good for some users.
A post on Samsung’s Community forum in India claims that after installing One UI 8 Watch, multiple sensors on a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic stopped working altogether. The affected user shared screenshots from Samsung’s built-in diagnostics tool, showing failures in wrist detection, BIA (Body Impedance Analysis), and ECG sensors.
Interestingly, the user noted that the sensors begin functioning again when the watch is worn on the palm side of the wrist instead of the usual position. This unusual behavior suggests it’s a software-related problem rather than a deeper hardware malfunction. However, standard troubleshooting steps, including resetting the watch and clearing its cache, did not resolve the issue.
Several other users confirmed the issue in comments, though not every Galaxy Watch 4 Classic appears to be affected. As of this writing, there have been no reports from users with a vanilla Galaxy Watch 4. The issue is seemingly limited to the Classic model, with no apparent cause known yet. Samsung has not issued an official statement acknowledging the problem.
However, it appears the company has halted the One UI 8 Watch rollout for the Watch 4 series. Some users report that the update isn’t available for them, despite others getting it several days ago. We’ll let you know when we have more information. But if you are using a Galaxy Watch 4 and haven’t installed One UI 8 yet, you may want to hold off until more clarity emerges.
