The 18-team field for the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts is starting to take shape as British Columbia and Manitoba determined their representatives on Sunday.
Out West, Taylor Reese-Hansen and her rink from Victoria defeated defending champion Team Corryn Brown in the BC final by a score of 9-5.
Reese-Hansen, alongside third Megan McGillivray, second Kim Bonneau and lead Julianna Mackenzie, scored three in the ninth end to seal the victory.
The 28-year-old Reese Hansen is having a career season on Tour, winning two prior events, including the Canadian Open Tier 2 Grand Slam last month, placing her rink fourth on the Canadian Team Ranking System.
The Mississauga Scotties will be Reese Hansen’s first appearance at the Canadian women’s curling championship.
Team Beth Peterson is a Manitoba champion for the first time after defeating Team Kaitlyn Lawes, 9-7, in the provincial final from Rivers.
Lawes had a shot for the win in the 10th, but wicked her guard and pushed Peterson’s stone to the shot position for the steal and two-point win.
The 31-year-old Peterson competed at the 2021 Scotties as a Wild Card team.
Team Peterson is rounded out by Kelsey Calvert, Katherine Remillard and Melissa Gordon-Kurz.
Team Lawes can still qualify as the final Wild Card rink which will be determined by the CTRS following the completion of playdowns this week.
Reese-Hansen and Peterson join Prince Edward Island’s Amanda Power, New Brunswick’s Mélodie Forsythe, Northwest Territories’ Nicky Kaufman, Yukon’s Bayly Scoffin and Nunavut’s Julia Weagle, who have already qualified for the national championship after winning their respective provincial/territorial championship.
A Scotties runner-up in 2025, Team Kerri Einarson will wear the Maple Leaf as Team Canada with defending champion Team Rachel Homan competing at the Olympics.
Team Kayla Skrlik and Team Christina Black represent two of the three pre-qualified teams for this year’s Scotties.
Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northern Ontario, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador will determine their teams this week.

Team Cody Tanaka won B.C. on Sunday, joining Canada’s Team Brad Jacobs and pre-qualified rinks in Team Matt Dunstone, Team Mike McEwen and Team Brad Gushue at the men’s national championship.
