Government Seeking Solutions to Unique Health Recruitment Challenges Across Province

The province’s health minister admits barriers remain in the recruitment and retention of health care workers.

One of the promises made by the PCs during last year’s election campaign was to staff rural emergency rooms 24/7.

Premier Tony Wakeham promised to hire more ER doctors, registered nurses and nurse practitioners, while introducing programs focused on retaining health care workers.

The previous government introduced a variety of incentive packages for return in service agreements.

Minister Lela Evans says they’re looking at ways to address the unique challenges in rural parts of the province.

She says they’re speaking with stakeholders in various parts of the province to help identify issues related to recruitment that are specific to those areas.
