In what was not only one of the biggest Bayern Munich stories of the year so far, Lennart Karl told supporters at a fan club visit that it was his dream to one day play for Real Madrid.
For those who have somehow missed this story, the public reaction was not a pleasant one. Fans quickly took out their pitchforks and called for Karl to be benched, or even sold outright.
While some fans might have overreacted, many fans were at least displeased to hear what he said. While the allure of Real Madrid is significant to players, a club and its fans never want to hear a player say their dream club is anywhere else but the club they are at.
While many expected some sort of punishment to be directed towards Lennart Karl after his comments, both Max Eberl and Christoph Freund have insisted that the matter has been settled and there will be no consequences coming for Karl, per SPORT1 as captured via @iMiaSanMia.
While the sentiment behind his comments is still mostly anger and frustration, hopefully FC Bayern can convince the player of a long career in Munich and the statement will be slowly forgiven over time. At the end of the day, benching a top talent will only hurt the team’s performance and Karl’s talent on the pitch will certainly help persuade fans in his favor.
Karl had a standout performance in his first game since the comments and the wonderkid’s time at Bayern is just getting started. While nothing lasts forever, fans should enjoy every match Karl puts on the Bayern shirt.
