INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On Friday, the Horizon League announced the 2026 Under Armour Horizon League Women’s Tennis Preseason Poll, with Oakland earning the first-place ranking for the first time since joining the Horizon League.

Since joining the conference in the 2014-15 season, the Oakland University women’s tennis team has never received a first-place ranking in the preseason polls. Previously, their highest was third, achieved in the 2019, 2020, and 2023 seasons.

The team is coming off a very successful fall season. Sophomore Martyna Piechowicz claimed the Horizon League Singles Individual Title at the #HL Individual Championships in October, defeating fellow teammate, freshman Oliwia Klimas, in the final and qualifying for the ITA Conference Masters Championships in San Diego. Other notable accomplishments include juniors Emilia Jarvinen and Edie Hammond reaching the semifinals of the Horizon League Doubles at the Individual Championships and Hammond finishing undefeated at the Rocket Indoor Invitational.

In this year’s preseason poll, the team received four of the six first-place votes, accumulating 34 total points. This places them just ahead of last year’s Horizon League Champion, Youngstown State.

Oakland will begin their winter season on Jan. 23, returning to the Twos Athletic Club to compete against Toledo after competing against them in the fall at the Rocket Indoor Invitational.
