This is Trump administration’s ‘Kent State moment’: ex-commissioner

The former commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection said he is troubled by the lack of accountability from federal officials, and that the Trump administration is already declaring the shooting of Good was justified before an investigation could take place.

“There are no checks and balances whatsoever,” said Gil Kerlikowske.

But he said he believes the public is already drawing its own conclusions based on the many eyewitness videos circulating on the internet.

“To really date myself, this is this administration’s Kent State moment — that iconic photo after the National Guard shot [college students] in Ohio reverberated across the country.”

Kerlikowske was referring to the 1970 fatal shooting of four unarmed college students at Kent State University, in northeastern Ohio, by the Ohio National Guard, which became one of the seminal events of the anti-Vietnam War movement.
