As of this morning, Calgarians used 493 million litres of water, bringing us closer to our goal of 485 million litres per day. Thank you to everyone who continues to conserve — your efforts are making a difference.
The City continues to call on Calgarians to conserve water. Reaching a safe and sustainable level is achievable if every person who uses Calgary’s water system saves just 30 litres per day.
“Calgarians have been stepping up, and it’s helping,” said Sue Henry, Chief of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency. “We are getting closer to where we need to be, but we aren’t there yet. Every litre saved helps us protect our system and make sure there’s enough water for essential services. Thank you for everything you’re doing—your actions matter to our whole city.”
While work continues to restore water to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main, it remains critical that Calgarians reduce everyday water use to ensure enough water stays available for emergency and fire services.
We’re asking residents to focus on three key actions:
Flushing toilets only when needed—skipping three flushes saves up to 18 liters.Reducing shower time. Every one minute you save in the shower saves up to 8 liters of water.Running your dishwasher and washing machines with full loads only.

CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS
The City continues to make progress on repairs to the water main break along 16 Avenue N.W. Today, teams are continuing to fill the pipe, with the next steps involving water quality testing and ensuring the system is fully stable. Water restrictions will only be eased once the system has been confirmed safe and fully stabilized.
Protecting the Community
To reduce risk in the event of another break, additional protective measures have now been completed. These include the partial removal of the flood berm, installing barriers along a section of pathway in Parkdale, clearing catch basins, and replacing manhole covers. We are also prepared to put pumps in low lying areas if needed.
52 STREET WATER MAIN
Planned upgrade work continues on a different water main at Memorial Drive & 52nd Street N.E. This work is almost done, and this pipe will be back in service soon, once water quality testing is complete. Residents in the area may notice lower water pressure, a strong chlorine smell or cloudy water, which are normal, temporary changes. The water remains safe to drink and meets all required health standards.
Any issue with cloudy water, taste or odour should pass after a couple of days of water use. If you continue to experience water cloudiness, please contact 311.
ROADS AND MOBILITY
Westbound traffic along 16 Avenue N.W. between 49 Street and Sarcee Trail N.W. remains closed. Speed reductions are in place throughout the construction area.
