A few days before Christmas, Brooks Koepka left LIV Golf. One of the few players who gave the league any credibility was walking out the door. Almost immediately, all eyes were on the PGA TOUR to not only see if it’d welcome the five-time major champion back with open arms, but how. We got that answer on Monday.

The TOUR’s new “Returning Members Program” has been put in place to allow qualifying players a chance to come back. Any non-member who won either a major championship or PLAYERS title from 2022-2025 is eligible, and only four guys fit the bill: Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Cameron Smith. After applying for reinstatement late last week and the creation of the RMP, Koepka will be in the field for the Farmers Insurance Open at the end of January. He’ll also return to the WM Phoenix Open a week later as a two-time past champion.

This new program could lead to the TOUR doing a little poaching of its own, feeding LIV its own medicine from the years of inciting desertion.

After Koepka’s imminent return was announced, LIV released the following statement:

“From the outset, LIV Golf has championed an open ecosystem and freedom, for all. Not just for a limited few. One that supports players’ rights to compete across various platforms, reinforcing the belief that the growth of the game is best served when the game’s best players are empowered to seek the most competitive environments around the world.

“LIV Golf’s vision remains unchanged—to grow the game of golf globally—and as that vision gains momentum across the broader golf landscape, the capacity to deliver on it continues to strengthen by expanding pathways and opportunity beyond any single institution or interest. As the world’s golf league, LIV Golf continues to offer the best professional golfers the most competitive, challenging, and lucrative environment in which to pursue greatness on a global scale.”

If DeChambeau, Rahm, and Smith want to follow Koepka, the TOUR has set a deadline of Feb. 2 for them to use the RMP, two days before the LIV season starts in Saudi Arabia.
