The weak side linebacker will make his season debut on Friday when the Bombers host the Toronto Argonauts at Princess Auto Stadium.
The Blue Bombers signed the 27-year-old Florida native to a one-year contract on Jan. 30.
In his three seasons with Toronto Jones started at both middle and weak side linebacker. He played 36 games with the double blue, registering 88 defensive tackles, 26 special teams tackles, eight sacks, three interceptions and one forced fumble.
“He has heavy hands, and he can bring it,” Blue Bombers coach Mike O’Shea said in a previous interview. “He had this big dude over top of him, as he was on punt team, and this guy was rushing him, and Jones snapped him. It was pretty impressive. And that is what he is capable of.”

Jones was on the single game injury list through the first six games. He says his faith kept him positive, despite watching the season unfold from the sidelines.
He also chooses to be positive about the lack of playing time.
“My morals are based on Christianity and Christ, and I continue to follow his word and how he would handle things,” Jones said. “And I think he would handle them with grace, joy and peace Has it been hard? Yeah. But at the same time, you can either handle things in an optimistic light or you can be negative, and I chose to be optimistic and focus on the things that I can control.”
True to his word, O’Shea and the coaching staff noticed his work ethic stayed consistent through this six-game dry spell
“He has been studious and working to get his opportunity and what we liked about him when we brought him here is that he plays a bit more of a hard-nosed game,” O’Shea said. “Hopefully we see that.”

The Bombers are in the midst of a three-game losing skid. Jones wants to make a big, heavy and hard-nosed impression, but the need for a win supersedes whatever his personal goals are in his first taste of action.
“Winning is all that is on everyone’s mind, just to go out there and win your one on ones and win your rep and run to the ball and do whatever you need to do to win the game,” he said. “If that means you have to run through somebody’s face or if it means you have to take on a double team, that means you have to duck your shoulder and get to the tackle, whatever that looks like, just make sure you are winning and that is the game players.”
