After losing their first three matchups against the San Antonio Spurs this season, the Oklahoma City Thunder finally got in the win column against one of the league’s rising teams.
The Thunder downed the Spurs 119-98 on Tuesday behind a strong performance from reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 34 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and four blocks, which matched his career high. Jalen Williams put together a solid outing as well with 20 points.
Chet Holmgren was far from his best against Victor Wembanyama, putting up just eight points, but he added three blocks and 10 boards. Wembanyama, who is still on a minutes restriction, scored 17 points.
After the game, fans praised the Thunder for turning things around and avoiding another loss to the Spurs.
The Spurs have already won the season series against the Thunder, but OKC will look to salvage its final matchup against San Antonio next month.
With the way the two squads have started, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them face off in the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder sit atop the Western Conference at 34-7, while the Spurs are just behind them at 27-13.
