An investigation is underway after the home of Greg Biffle was vandalized just a few weeks after the retired NASCAR driver and his family were among seven killed in a plane crash last month.

The break-in was reported at Biffle’s residence in Mooresville, N.C during the evening of Jan. 8, according to an incident report. Thirty-thousand dollars in cash and a backpack were stolen, along with some guns and memorabilia, according to multiple reports.

The crime is listed as a burglary of a residence with forcible entry, according to the Iredell County (N.C.) Sheriff’s Office, which is handling the investigation. According to the incident report, the home was last known to be secured on Jan. 7 at 3 p.m. The case remains open and no arrests have been made. No one was inside the residence at the time of the break-in.

Biffle, 55, his wife and two children, along with Dennis Dutton, his son Jack, and Craig Wadsworth were killed in the plane crash on the morning of Dec. 18, 2025. The plane was attempting to return to the Statesville Regional Airport, for reasons that are unclear, just minutes after taking off, killing all seven onboard.

Witnesses told the National Transportation Safety Board they saw the Cessna C550 flying “very low” as it attempted to land at the airport. The plane struck trees and multiple light stanchions just outside the airport as it approached the runway, and videos show the plane erupting into a large fireball upon hitting the ground.

The cause of the crash has not yet been disclosed by the NTSB. A preliminary report is expected to be released soon.

Biffle won 19 races in NASCAR’s premier Cup Series races, along with a championship in each of NASCAR’s two other national touring series. After retiring from full-time racing at the end of the 2016 season, he remained a popular figure within the sport and was nominated for the NASCAR Hall of Fame. In 2024, he won the prestigious NMPA Myers Brothers Award, which recognizes an individual who made outstanding contributions to stock car racing, for his efforts to help those in western North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Helene.
