Doctor shortage forces temporary shutdown from Jan. 16-17

The North Shore Health Network is getting ready for a temporary closure of the Emergency Department at its Thessalon site because of doctor shortages.

This is expected to take place starting at 8 a.m. on Jan. 16 and ending Jan. 17 at 8 a.m.

Thessalon Site The North Shore Health Network (NSHN) is informing the community of upcoming temporary closures of the Emergency Department at the following locations due to physician shortages:


THESSALON SITE: From 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 16 and reopening at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17.

Anyone requiring immediate medical attention should call 911. Ambulances will be re-routed to one of the following closest Emergency Departments to the Thessalon Site:


Blind River Site – North Shore Health Network – 525 Causley St., Blind River
Richards Landing Site – North Shore Health Network – 1180 Richards St., Richards Landing
Sault Area Hospital – 750 Great Northern Rd., Sault Ste. Marie.

The North Shore Health Network continues to investigate all possible options to provide safe access to care and to avoid closure.
