Both the female and senior Ice Hawks rosters are impressing out on the ice lately as the hockey season continues.

OUTLOOK — It was a busy weekend of hockey for two different Outlook teams playing in two different leagues, with a bit of a mixed bag of results.

First off, the under-22 female Outlook Ice Hawks found themselves with double hosting duties at the Jim Kook Rec Plex, with a back-to-back offering of games on Saturday night, Jan. 10, followed by a Sunday afternoon game.

On Saturday, the Hawks hosted the Regina Wild in a game that saw the action spill over into overtime to decide who was going to leave the ice with the win.

This particular game wasn’t a flurry of goals that hockey fans are used to, as it was more of a strategic affair between two supremely talented rosters. In the first period, there was just one goal scored in those 20 minutes, and it belonged to Outlook, with #18 Emmerson Tastad scoring at the 13:48 mark.

The second period saw Regina answer back in a significant way, first tying the score at the 15:56 mark with a goal by #12 Laiken Swan. Less than two minutes later, the Wild forged ahead with another goal, scored by #66 Kaleigh Kachmarski. From that point, it was up to the Ice Hawks to get themselves squared up on the scoreboard and find a way forward.

The hometown team was able to do that in the final minutes of the third period with a goal scored by #14 Grace Millar, tying things up at two apiece and sending the game into overtime.

It was there that Regina found a way to victory, as #7 Hadley Revenko scored at the 1:54 mark to give the Wild a 3-2 win.

Things fared better for Outlook on Sunday afternoon when the team hosted the Western Prairie Klippers. In the first period, it was all Ice Hawks, as #9 Austyn Eaton scored at 13:43, followed minutes later by #23 Kayla Schroeder at 8:30. The Klippers tried to mount a comeback, but it was staved off by the Hawks, who managed to score once more with just three seconds left on a goal by #24 Alex Reid.

The second period saw Outlook’s #9 Eaton score her second goal of the game at 18:32, but the Klippers responded minutes later at 13:53 with a power-play goal by #19 Ayda Longueil. Western Prairie kept pressing with another goal at the 6:54 mark, scored by #14 Mia Tough, but that would be it for the visitors. The Ice Hawks closed out the period with the final goal of the game at 1:14 by #7 Kara Bergen.

With no goals scored in the third period, the game ended in a 5-2 win for Outlook.

The Ice Hawks now have a short break, with their next game slated as an away matchup against the Saskatoon Prairie Blaze on Jan. 25.

Next up were the senior Outlook Ice Hawks, who also played back-to-back games, one on the road and one at home.

On Jan. 10, the team was in Beechy taking on the Lucky Lake-Beechy Lakers. Things started off evenly for the first half of the opening period before the puck found the back of the net, with the first goal of the night belonging to the visiting Ice Hawks, scored by #9 Billy Trarback at 9:51. The Lakers regrouped and managed to score two goals of their own within the final 65 seconds of the period, coming from #6 Will Campbell and #91 Jake Spak.

The second period saw Outlook respond with a flurry of goals, starting with #85 Ryan Husband scoring at 17:22. Minutes later, #7 Alex Phillips added another at 12:44, only for Lakers #6 Campbell to answer back with his second of the night. Near the end of the period, the Ice Hawks struck again, with #98 Sam Callahan scoring on a power play at 3:25.

The third period featured more back-and-forth action, with Lakers #25 Rin Benny scoring at 9:52, followed less than three minutes later by Ice Hawks #43 Kobe Kindrachuk scoring on a power play. In the final three minutes, Lakers #3 Ryder Meyers tied the game at 2:45, but it was Outlook’s #98 Callahan who sealed the win with a goal in the final eight seconds, giving the Ice Hawks a 6-5 victory.

Outlook kept the momentum going Sunday evening back at the Jim Kook Rec Plex, defeating the Delisle Bruins by a score of 4-2.

Elsewhere around the SVHL, a surprising result took place in Dinsmore on Jan. 4, where the host Dynamos defeated the Kenaston Blizzards 10-6. The Blizzards, a perennial powerhouse with five provincial championships and a dominant record, suffered a rare loss.

The Ice Hawks are back on home ice this weekend, hosting Loreburn on Friday night against the 19ers at 8 p.m., followed by another home game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against the Davidson Cyclones.
