After bear spray was used in the Mayfair Shopping Centre food court on Jan. 2, an adult man and youth have now been arrested and charged.
Police were called to the food court shortly after 2 p.m. after bear spray was used, and multiple people were affected, including two infants.
The suspects fled the scene immediately after.
Victoria Police says an adult man in his early 20s was arrested on Jan. 10, and has been charged with assault with a weapon.
Then, on Jan. 13, a youth was arrested, and the BC Prosecution Service has approved charges of six counts of assault with a weapon, one count of causing a disturbance, and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
VicPD says more information cannot be released due to the age of the youth.
“VicPD wishes to thank mall staff, BCEHS, Fire, and members of the public for their cooperation during the investigation,” VicPD said.
“Incidents involving weapons in public spaces place community members at significant risk, and police remain committed to holding those responsible accountable while working to ensure public safety.”
