Emily the drumming elephant is back on TikTok. This big beastie has gone viral numerous times for her percussive talents. In this clip, we get to see a few of the best moments of her marching to the beat of her own drum.
The caption explains, “Some more of my favorite moments with Emily the drumming elephant! Emily was taken out of the wild at an early age by some bad people, but eventually found her way to a loving home at an AZA-accredited facility where they give her amazing care. At some point, she illustrated to them that she loved drumming. As a drummer, when I found out, I knew I had to drum with her.”
What a treat for us all that we get to witness it! Emily responds by squealing along, waving her ears, and, of course, jumping in to play the drums herself with her trunk. It’s magic from start to finish.
In previous videos, commenters have absolutely adored Emily, and this one was no different. @butlikehesjustafriend gushed, “I’ve never heard an elephant make that noise before. I’m in love.” Same!
Others, like @Vinyl Richie, tried to get into the mind of an elephant, “The best part is we see this as cute, while elephants see humans as little pets that are amusing.” She’s definitely playing for us.
Viewer @Ariel Casey Acoustic pointed out her adorableness with, “The way she stops and listens. Watch her ears when you start playing. This is too precious!!” Finally, @RaeWN1 put into words what we think every day, “WE DO NOT DESERVE ANIMALS!” That’s the truth.

You can’t tell from this video, but Emily is over 60 years old! Sadly, just over a year ago, her best friend Ruth passed away at 66. That makes enrichment activities, like drumming, even more important to ensure she stays happy.
Emily has lived at her zoo for more than 55 years and spends her days eating, drumming, and painting. The zoo notes, “Emily’s favorite treats include alfalfa cubes, dried fruit, watermelon, and sugar cane.” Delicious!
