The tense trailer for Sophie Turner and Kit Harington’s new horror remake The Dreadful has landed. The movie, described as an “unnerving Gothic tale”, focuses on a woman and her mother-in-law who live on the outskirts of society in the 15th century.

In the first clip, Turner’s Anne is warned by Morwen (Marcia Gay Harden) that “demons walk the earth in the shape of men”, as she learns from returning figure Jago (Harington) that her husband has died in war.

However, she grows closer to Jago, spurring conflict as Anne is torn between him and her mother-in-law, while we get a glimpse of Morwen’s violent brutality.

“They will pull you down to hell!” she warns her daughter-in-law at one point.

The Dreadful comes from writer and director Natasha Kermani, and also stars The Witcher: Blood Origin’s Laurence O’Fuarain and Coronation Street’s Jonathan Howard.

Turner previously revealed that the movie is a loose remake of Japanese movie Onibaba, telling Collider: “What can I tease? Well, I mean, I can tell you that it’s based on the Onibaba, which is an amazing film from… I don’t even know what year it’s from, but it is loosely based around that.

“I would say it’s a bit like The Green Knight. It’s kind of supernatural and weird and really scary,” she further teased.

It also marks a reunion for Turner and Harington, who played Sansa Stark and Jon Snow on Game of Thrones.

Meanwhile, Harington can currently be seen as Sir Henry Muck in finance drama Industry, which has just kicked off its fourth season.

The Dreadful is yet to confirm a UK release date, though will premiere in the US on 20 February.
