The Cavaliers will be down their star point guard for the foreseeable future.
Cleveland’s Darius Garland sprained his right great toe and will be reevaluated in seven to 10 days, the team announced Sunday.
The Cavaliers said that Garland will undergo treatment during the reevaluation timeframe.
Garland sustained the injury on Jan. 14 against the Philadelphia 76ers when diving for a loose ball. He was ruled out of that game in the third quarter.
In 26 games this season, Garland is averaging 18 points and 6.9 assists per game, shooting 45 per cent from the field and 36 per cent from deep.
Now in his seventh NBA season, Garland is a two-time all-star. He was drafted 5th overall in 2019 by the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers (24-19) sit fifth in the Eastern Conference. They are set to host the NBA-leading Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday (Sportsnet, Sportsnet+, 2:30 p.m ET / 11:30 a.m PT).
