Shortly after it was revealed that a key new female supporting character was being sought for James Gunn’s “Man of Tomorrow”.

When it was said the character had to be “tall and have warrior-like qualities,” speculation quickly exploded that the character would be Wonder Woman. Gunn subsequently shot down those reports, confirming the role isn’t that.

Now, Nexus Point News is reporting that the mystery female role is that of Maxima – a character who will serve as a secondary antagonist to Brainiac (Lars Eidinger).

The suggestion is that the film may borrow elements from the 1992 comic storyline “Panic in the Sky,” a crossover event in which Brainiac conquered Almerac and coerced Maxima into helping him invade Earth.

The site also says: “There are also reports of another hero being cast for the film who could potentially join Superman and Lex Luthor to fight off Brainiac’s invasion. Although unconfirmed, it’s possible that the Justice Gang can return to join the heroes along with characters like Supergirl, Peacemaker, and Lobo.”

The film also stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr.

“Man of Tomorrow” arrives in cinemas on July 9th 2027. Gunn recently posted a new photo, which you can see below, as filming gears up to begin in April.
