Investing.com — Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock spiked as much as 1.6% Wednesday afternoon following a Bloomberg News report that the company plans to transform Siri into a built-in chatbot, marking its entry into the generative AI race currently led by OpenAI and Google.
According to the report, Apple is developing a chatbot codenamed “Campos” that will be deeply integrated into iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems, replacing the current Siri interface. Users will be able to access the new service using the same methods they currently use for Siri, including voice commands or holding down device buttons.
The new chatbot will reportedly offer significantly enhanced capabilities compared to the current Siri, featuring a chat-like interface and conversational abilities similar to ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini. This represents a major upgrade from Siri’s current functionality, which lacks the back-and-forth interaction capabilities of competing AI assistants.
Bloomberg’s sources indicated that while a non-chatbot update to Siri is planned for iOS 26.4 in the coming months, the full chatbot capabilities are expected to be unveiled at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with a release scheduled for September.
The chatbot, which will support both voice and text input, is reportedly the primary new addition to Apple’s upcoming operating systems, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, which are otherwise focused on performance improvements and bug fixes rather than major changes.
