Twenty-five people at a condominium in the east end of downtown have been evacuated from their homes after a situation overnight in Cavendish Square near the Sheraton.
The RNC say people heard loud booms and saw black smoke coming from a garage in the area of the square, which is at Cavendish and Duckworth.Police, fire and ambulance personnel all helped remove people from the smoke-filled Cavendish Condominiums.
The Red Cross was also called in to help out.
Platoon Commander Paul Chaytor says they went door-to-door through the multi-storey building until everyone was accounted for.
One firefighter was injured and taken to hospital, but Chaytor does not think the injury was significant, and says he should be okay.
Traffic headed east on Duckworth will have to take a left at the Sheraton.
