Vancouver Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini reportedly played a big role in getting the team’s management group to acquire Evander Kane from the Edmonton Oilers.Back at the end of June, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin went out onto the trade market and helped beef up the team’s top-six forward group by landing Evander Kane in a deal with the Edmonton Oilers, which saw a 2025 fourth round pick go the other way.
Kane expressed his excitement in playing for his hometown team, the Vancouver Canucks, in a social media post last month, highlighting how great of a hockey city it truly is.
“With that said, I’m incredibly excited for the next chapter of my career as I join the @Canucks . It’s an honor to become part of an organization and team I grew up watching as a kid. Vancouver is a city that lives and breathes hockey, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play in front of my hometown as I did many years ago as a Vancouver Giant.” Kane said.
Vancouver Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini may have played role in club landing Evander Kane
It looks like Evander Kane is a player that the Vancouver Canucks coveted for a while and their owner, Francesco Aquilini, appeared to play a bit of a role in the team landing him.
During a recent episode of Sekeres and Price, Matt Sekeres shared that Francesco Aquilini wanted the Vancouver Canucks to acquire Evander Kane if and when the Edmonton Oilers were going to make him available, which happened to be before the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
“The owner (Francesco Aquilini) has long wanted Evander Kane, the owner asked the Canucks to get him when he was available.” Sekeres said.
While Vancouver Canucks fans don’t have the great feelings for the team’s owner, they may have to give him a round of applause for him getting the club to acquire Evander Kane, especially if the 930-game veteran comes in and performs like he did during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how Evander Kane will be utilized by Head Coach Adam Foote this season, but he’ll more than likely start the year on their second line with Filip Chytil and Conor Garland.
Kane is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2025-26 season and he’ll have a lot to prove in a contract year, which bodes well for the Vancouver Canucks as he’ll want to be at the top of his game in order to receive strong contract offers next summer.
