The T&A recently launched its Best Gym 2026 contest, with readers invited to share their favourite place for a workout.

Nominations were whittled down to 10 – and we are now in the process of profiling each of the finalists.

One of the gyms hoping to clinch the title is Primal Edge Gym on Market Street in Shipley town centre.

Primal Edge Gym in running for T&A award

Rebecca Peel and her husband opened the gym in 2019, combining their shared love of fitness and his many years of experience as a qualified personal trainer.

Rebecca said: “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised as one of the top 10 gyms, an achievement made possible entirely by the loyalty, support, and positive spirit of our members.”

What can members expect?

Seven years after opening, the gym says its goal remains the same – creating a welcoming and supportive community, in a facility that offers some of the very best equipment available.

Open 24 hours a day, the gym added that it “boasts an impressive range of equipment designed for serious training, whilst maintaining a warm welcome to newcomers at all fitness levels”.

Members have access to a range of weight machines, as well as dedicated free-weight zones complete with squat racks and lifting platforms.

Cardio enthusiasts are catered for, with treadmills, bikes, rowers, stairmasters, and assault bikes.

Rebecca added: “Members can train with confidence, knowing the environment is clean, tidy, and respectful, where weights are returned and the space is cared for by all.”

‘Our staff are always present’

As part of their membership, Primal Edge provides over 30 classes each week in fat-loss, strength and conditioning, and functional fitness.

The gym has a spa area, which includes ice baths, a sauna and a steam room.

The facility also includes functional training zones equipped for sled pushes, boxing drills, and strongman exercises, alongside practical amenities such as free parking, showers, changing rooms, and even sunbeds.

Rebecca added: “Many of our customers visit not only to work out, but also to enjoy a friendly chat or (see) a familiar face.

“Our staff are always present, approachable, and ready to listen or offer support whenever it is needed.”
