The star third baseman is nearing a restructured seven-year, $175 million contract with the Guardians, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reported on Saturday.
The new deal adds four years and $106 million to his commitment in Cleveland, keeping him there through 2032, and includes about $70 million in deferrals, per Meisel.
RamÃrez, 33, has made the all-star team and finished top-10 in AL MVP voting in each of the last five seasons.
The Dominican Republic native placed third in the latter for the third time in his career last season after slashing .283/.360/.503 with 30 home runs, 85 RBIs and a personal-best 44 steals.
He has spent his entire career with the Guardians since debuting with the club in 2013, making seven all-star teams in total while winning six Silver Sluggers. Over 1,609 games, he’s slugged 285 home runs with 949 RBIs, with his career slash line of .279/.353/.504 nearly mirroring last season’s.
RamÃrez was part of the Guardians team that took the Chicago Cubs to seven games in the 2016 World Series. He’s made six other post-seasons with the club since then, including last season’s AL Central title.
