The Siena Women’s Tennis team had a flair for dramatics as it opened the 2026 slate at home in winning a third set tiebreaker behind the clinching point from junior Zaara Omar as the Saints rallied back for a 4-3 victory against LIU late Saturday night at Tri-City Fitness.

After dropping the opening set 2-6 to Mia Tsoukalas, Omar responded with a pair of 7-6 wins [7-6 (3) in the deciding set] to propel Siena to a 2-0 record this season.

Siena answered back in doubles play as well.  After the Sharks’ doubles #3 duo of Leena Kuittinen and Ksenia Reznitskaya beat Selma Bellaouchi and Reegan Mullaney 6-0, the Saints’ #2 and #1 teams each won their matches to take the doubles point.  Manuela Gomez and Madeline De Faber-Schumacher even the score when they took care of Paula Guillen and Mia Tsoukalas 6-1.  In the deciding match, Omar and Andrea Vargas topped Emma Barclay and Beatriz Verdial 6-4 to seal it.

In singles play, Vargas picked up a win from the #3 spot by defeating Guillen 6-3, 6-4. De Faber-Schumacher earned the Saints another point from the No. 6 position by breezing past Verdial 6-1, 6-0.

Sunday’s match at UMass was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Saints will be back in action next Sunday, Feb. 1 at 1:45 p.m. hosting Providence at Tri-City Fitness in Latham.
