Lorenzo Insigne’s return to football appears to be at hand.

Sky Sports’ Gianluca Di Marzio reports the former Toronto FC and Italy winger is closing to rejoining Serie B side Pescara. He is expected to meet with the team on Wednesday. The 34-year-old Insigne previously spent the 2011-2012 season on loan with the team from Napoli. He led Serie B in scoring that year with 18 goals.

Insigne has been a free agent since his deal was terminated by mutual consent this past July 1. His signing was one of the biggest missteps in club, and perhaps, league, history. Joining TFC in the summer of 2022, Insigne was paid a league-high $15 million per season. He went on to score 15 goals in 66 MLS appearances.

Prior to joining the Reds, Insigne spent 11 seasons at Napoli where he had 96 goals in 337 Serie A appearances. With the Gli Azzurri, Insigne won two Coppas Italia.

Internationally, Insigne was capped 54 times by Italy between 2012 and 2022 and was a member of the squad that won Euro 2020.

Pescara currently sits 20th in Serie B on 14 points, six points out of safety.
