Fans of “The Blind Side” star Quinton Aaron were shocked to learn Monday that he has been in the hospital and on life support.
The 41-year-old reportedly collapsed while going up some stairs at his apartment last week.
A GoFundMe has been set up for him and has currently raised just more than $12,000. The initial GoFundMe post said that Aaron was hospitalized with a “severe blood infection.”
Tuesday brought a troubling new update about Aaron’s health, according to TMZ. The outlet reported that doctors found a “rare cyst” on Aaron’s spine. The outlet reported that doctors are running tests to try to find out if it is benign. TMZ also reported that back surgery is “on the table” for Aaron, and that if that occurs he could be in a wheelchair for a while.
An update to that GoFundMe on Monday did provide some positive news.
“Quinton has opened his eyes and has some feeling in his foot!” it read. “He is still on life support and going through tests. We are looking at quite a recovery time and will need a wheelchair when he is released while he goes through therapy to walk again. Thank you to all of you for your support and prayers.”
TMZ reported that his agent said that he is stable and has been communicating with family.
His wife shared a message on his Facebook page on Monday, too.
“Hello everyone, I would like to extend my thanks to everyone for the numerous prayers for my husband,” she wrote. “I really appreciate you all.”
Fans were quick to respond with love.
“From his lifelong fan and brother in Christ, my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery,” one person wrote.
“Oh my gosh,” another wrote. “I’m sending all my love to you both. Quinton is such a wonderful kind soul, and I know he can get through this.”
There were plenty more comments like that and you can see them here.
Aaron made headlines last February for another frightening health episode.
Back then he was taken to a hospital in Southern California on Feb. 27. Aaron reportedly woke up ill and began coughing up blood. After undergoing testing, he was reportedly diagnosed with a “severe” case of the flu that then progressed into a bacterial infection and pneumonia.
Aaron, who is 6-foot-8, starred as Michael Oher, a former Baltimore Ravens lineman, in the 2009 hit “The Blindside.” He has been active up until last year with credits for “War Dawgz,” and “Experiment 77” in 2025.
