Few Manchester United players are more aggressive and competitive as Lisandro Martinez, and he is days away from reigniting an exciting feud.

Lisandro Martinez has faced his fair share of criticism at Manchester United, with Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt in particular choosing to criticise his game.

But frankly, the World Cup-winning centre-back has been one of United’s best signings in the past decade.

Pep Guardiola called Martinez a top-five centre-back in the world, and his importance in the United squad is often understated.

The United faithful are familiar with Martinez’s ‘Butcher’ nickname, and he will be looking forward to one upcoming battle with Adama Traore.

Up next for United in the Premier League is a visit from Fulham, and in recent years, that has meant that Martinez finds himself up against Adama Traore.

Traore has taken social media swipes at Martinez in the past after the duo came head-to-head on the pitch, but the 30-year-old Spanish winger will not be available on the weekend.

That is because Traore completed a £2 million move to West Ham this window, meaning his duel with Martinez is postponed… for another two weeks.

United face West Ham on February 10, with the Red Devils travelling to the London Stadium to face Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Martinez may not face Traore at Old Trafford this weekend, but it seems their highly-anticipated showdown will commence a few weeks later.

Lisandro Martinez is key to Michael Carrick’s success

Martinez has started in six successive matches for United, including three as captain when Bruno Fernandes was out injured.

Since Michael Carrick’s appointment, Martinez has formed a solid partnership with Harry Maguire in defence.

Martinez praised Carrick’s coaching after beating Manchester City in the derby, and he bounced back from an own-goal at The Emirates to put on another strong display in North London.

Martinez is easily United’s best defender in possession, and his line-breaking passes have been vital to Carrick’s success. As United enter a period of fixtures where they will be considered favourites, Martinez can expect to play a key role.
