Sunday’s Iowa Corn 350 capped off the three-race weekend in Newton.
NEWTON, Iowa — Sunday’s Iowa Corn 350 capped off a three-race weekend for NASCAR fans at Iowa Speedway. 30,000 from near and far showed up to watch William Byron win the big race.
For some, the stop in Newton was their first-ever race.
“Never a doubt in my mind. If you ever been to one, keep coming,” Jeff Raymond, a first-time attendee, said. “If you haven’t been to one, you got to go.”
Others have travelled around the country to see the cars go fast, but were excited to see one down the road from home. That’s especially true at the track that prides itself as the “fastest short track on the planet.”
Jason Palmer of Ankeny has been to other perennial tracks like Phoenix Raceway, but says Iowa’s track ranks right up there with it.
“It’s kind of shaped like an intermediate, but it’s got the short track kind of style to it,” Palmer said. “So yeah, it makes for a fun little speedy track with actual passing which NASCAR can have trouble with, but they don’t in Iowa.”
NASCAR has not officially announced its schedule for next year, but fans who bought tickets have already received messages to renew their seats.
