Boxers from across Saskatchewan will fight for a spot at nationals as they compete in the provincial championships this weekend at the Living Sky Casino.
The Sandhills Boxing Club out of Leader is hosting the event here in Swift Current.
“There’s going to be a competition for every weight category from 10 years old up to elite athe nd master category, which are 40 years plus,” said Isabelle Blohm, assistant coach and treasuer of the Sandhills Boxing Club. “They will be the top boxers.”
It’s a stacked card with 17 bouts on Saturday and 13 or more on Sunday afternoon.
There will be some local boxers in action as well.
“We have three coming from our club,” Blohm said. “Our two daughters actually compete in there too and it should be really good. One of our daughters just got selected by Team Canada to go to the Youth Olympic Games qualifier in Thailand in March. It should be a pretty good match here. And then we also have Jaden Toye that’s coming back to Swift Current. When the Swift Current Victory Boxing Club was open, he was under them, and he now boxes out of Saskatoon, but he’s really excited to come back home.”
The action starts Saturday at 6:00 pm from the Living Sky Casino and resumes Sunday at 12:00 pm.
Tickets are $35 for the weekend or $20 each day.
