We highlight Victoria East girls’ soccer winning 1-0 over East. While West boys’ soccer beat East 3-1
VICTORIA, Texas- With the Battle of Victoria taking place on the court earlier this week, both teams renewed the rivalry on the soccer field Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
The girls kicked off the action, with Victoria East winning a physical, defensive battle 1–0 over Victoria West. The lone goal came from freshman Mckenna Chaput, who scored off a header from a corner kick assisted by Bay Hysquierdo.
After the match, Chaput said the atmosphere was stressful early on, but the Titans were able to settle in and rely on teamwork to secure the win.
“It was stressful honestly for the entire game, but I feel like we were able to stay calm, work together as a team, and not get frustrated,” Chaput said.
In the boys match, Victoria East struck first when Gerardo Cazares scored off a corner kick to give the Titans an early 1–0 lead. However, Victoria West responded with three unanswered goals to earn a 3–1 victory.
With the win, Victoria West boys soccer improves to 2–1 in district play, while Victoria East girls soccer improves to 1–1–1 in district.
Victoria East soccer will be back in action on the road against Terry on Tuesday, with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Victoria West will host Richmond Tomas at Memorial Stadium the same night, also starting at 5:30 p.m.
