SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry was ruled out for the rest of Friday’s game against the Detroit Pistons because of right knee soreness. The Warriors lost 131-124.
It’s unclear exactly when Curry injured his knee, but the knee issue has been lingering for several days, dating back to the Warriors’ recent trip to Minneapolis.
After the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr sounded optimistic that Curry would be all right.
“I think he’s OK,” Kerr said. “I don’t think it’s anything major. But we’ll have an update (Saturday).”
Kerr wasn’t immediately sure if Curry would need an MRI.
Curry exited Friday’s game with 4:08 left in the third quarter and never returned. Kerr said before Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves that Curry had been dealing with some soreness in his knee, but he played through the lingering pain and helped lead the Warriors to a win. Curry sat out the following night to rest the knee during a loss to the Timberwolves, but played again in a win on Wednesday night over the Utah Jazz.
The good news for the Warriors is that they don’t play again until Tuesday night, at home, against the Philadelphia 76ers. Curry had 23 points in 25 minutes of action before leaving Friday’s game.
Curry is averaging 27.2 points per game, his highest scoring season since 2022-23. He was recently selected to start in next month’s All-Star Game. He has been named an All-Star 12 times.
