A documentary centred on the U.S.’s First Lady Melania Trump opens in theatres on Friday, but just a handful of tickets have been sold in Toronto so far.
At Scotiabank Theatre Toronto, just ten tickets have been sold across four scheduled opening-day screenings as of Friday afternoon.
At Cineplex Odeon Eglinton Town Centre Cinemas, only three tickets were sold for the first screening at 3:30 p.m. No tickets for the following two showtimes – at 6:20 p.m. and 9 p.m. – have been sold at all.
The documentary, titled MELANIA, follows Melania Trump’s life and public role over the course of 20 days leading up to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration, where her husband, Donald Trump was elected for a second time.
The film had its world premiere on Thursday in Washington, D.C.’s Trump-Kennedy Center, and was attended by the Trump family as well as special guests like Nicki Minaj, Marco Rubio, Dr. Oz, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Opening-day screenings at both theatres include multiple time slots throughout the afternoon and evening, yet all remain largely empty, according to seat availability listed online.
It’s unclear whether ticket sales will pick up over the weekend, but the Toronto numbers point to a quiet theatrical rollout so far.
The film is now open in theatres.
