It’s the point in the offseason when contending teams are adding versatile players to their rosters.

That’s what the Seattle Mariners did on Saturday when they signed Will Wilson to a contract, according to Austin Malutic.

Wilson made it to the major leagues for the first time in 2025 with the Cleveland Guardians. He batted just .192 (15-78) with four doubles, two doubles and two steals.

He played both second base and third base for Cleveland.

He was originally a first-round pick, No. 15 overall, by the Angels in the 2019 MLB Draft out of North Carolina State.

Wilson spent most of his minor league career with the San Francisco Giants.

He joined the Cleveland organization for the first time in 2025 and also played in 70 games at Triple-A Columbus. At that level, he hit .246 with a .760 OPS (12 doubles, 2 triples, 11 home runs).

Wilson will be a longshot to make the MLB roster for the Mariners in the spring, but they don’t have a ton of depth at second base or third base right now, so if he makes a good first impression, he could factor into the early-season thinking, at least until they work out those positions more permanently.

It’s certainly a decent opportunity for Wilson to show that he belongs in the major leagues again.
