LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville boxer won a gold medal recently at an international boxing competition in Germany.
Last weekend, local boxing star Lavant Brownlee took home his first international gold medal at the Brandenburg Cup.
Brownlee is a member of USA Boxing’s Youth High Performance Team, which has been in Germany since last month for the highly competitive international tournament.
The USA Team dominated, taking home seven gold medals in total.
Brownlee closed out the week with two unanimous decisions and secured gold after his opponent couldn’t compete in the final round.
Brownlee is currently ranked #1 in the country for his weight group.
His coach, Five Star Boxing’s Aaron Sheckles, says this is a major step forward in Brownlee’s goal to qualify for and compete in the 2028 Olympic Games.
In July, WHAS11 News’ Grace McKenna interviewed Brownlee, when he said the ultimate goal of the Brandenburg cup was to go to Germany and win gold.
