The Saskatchewan Roughriders treated fans to their most dominant performance of the 2025 CFL season, defeating the host Montreal Alouettes 34-6 on Saturday.

The victory gave the Roughriders a 7-1 record for only the third time in franchise history. Saskatchewan previously won seven of its first eight games in 1970 and 2013.

As well, the Roughriders have won their first four road games for only the third time. Saskatchewan won its first five road games, a team record, in 1976. The 1970 team started off with four road wins.

“We know we’re kind of building into the team we want to be,” quarterback Trevor Harris told TSN at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.

Saskatchewan held Montreal to 169 yards of net offence while producing 418 and owning the time of possession (36:52).

The net-offence total was the lowest by a Saskatchewan opponent since Oct. 20, 2017, when the Calgary Stampeders were held to 168 yards in a 30-7 Roughriders victory at McMahon Stadium.

The Roughriders won by a margin of 28 on Saturday and gave themselves welcome breathing room. Five of the team’s previous six victories had been by seven or fewer points.

“This whole week (of practice) was about finish, period,” Head Coach Corey Mace told CKRM’s Luc Mullinder after Saturday’s blowout.

Over the first 30 minutes, Saskatchewan got touchdowns from Tommy Stevens (on a one-yard run) and Tommy Nield (13-yard pass from Harris).

Brett Lauther converted both first-half majors and added a 17-yard field goal. Joe Couch chipped in with a 78-yard punt single.

Montreal scored its first points on a 56-yard field goal by Jose Maltos Diaz.

Maltos Diaz added a 54-yard field goal early in the third quarter.

The Roughriders answered in the third frame with a 32-yard field goal by Lauther and a 14-yard touchdown pass from Harris to KeeSean Johnson. Lauther’s convert put the Roughriders ahead 28-6.

Lauther added a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter.

The Roughriders are now on a bye week. They are to return to action on Aug. 16 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1 p.m., Mosaic Stadium).

Hamilton (6-2) leads the East Division. Saskatchewan sits atop the West.

DOHNTE DOMINATES

Dohnte Meyers moved into exclusive company by reaching 100 receiving yards for the third consecutive road game.

Meyers, who caught five passes for 136 yards, is chasing the Roughriders’ record of four consecutive 100-yard games on the road. Joey Walters set the record in 1981.

Meyers, Mac Speedie (1953) and Ray Purdin (1962) are next in line with three.

Meyers’ 58-yarder on Saturday gave him three of the Roughriders’ four passing plays of 50-plus yards this season. All three of Meyers’ gains of 50-plus have been on the road.

The impact of Meyers was evident from Saturday’s opening play. His 46-yard return of the opening kickoff gave Saskatchewan a first-down on Montreal’s 54-yard line.

The visitors then embarked on a 10-play touchdown drive that devoured 6:48 of the first quarter.
